,,Golden Prague” –
also known as the city of hundred spires is the capital city of Czech Republic
which unites six parts of the city : Old town, Josefov, New town, Mala Strana, Hradcany
and Vyšehrad. Today, it's one of the most visited European cities with constant
number of 250 000 tourists.
I
have visited Prague twice, and I still consider I haven’t seen all the
attractions which this beautiful city has to offer. I think that for true
familiarization of this place it takes a bit longer period in order to get to
know new culture, local residents, explore unknown streets and simply imbibe
atmosphere of the city. It’s a special joy to visit Prague during winter period
( I even had a pleasure to greet New Year here)- but in that case layers and
layers of worm clothes are necessities or you could simply warm up with a glass
of good mead from street shops.
I think that you can
never get to see all the attractions of Prague, but simply some of them you
mustn’t miss. In part Hradcany rises well known Prague castle in which
complex is also St. Vitus Cathedral which dominates the skyline wherever you
are in the city.
If you have time, I
recommend you to attend change of guard which takes time (as I recall) around
noon. And don’t make jokes with guards because they’re allowed
to defend themselves in case you cross the limit. If you find yourself in front
of St. Vitus Cathedral check out inside of it, and you will get a
special experience if it’s a sunny day and you get to see a beautiful sunlight
refraction through stained glass window.
Vida pogledajte i unutrašnjost građevine, a poseban doživljaj ćete imati ukoliko je sunčan dan i vidite prelamanje svetlsoti kroz raznobojne vitraže bazilike.
Cross the oldest of Prague’s bridges- the
Charless Bridge and get to the Old Town ( watch your pockets and bags while
crossing the brdige because constant crowd is heaven for thieves) and on square
you will see probably the most characteristic symbol of Prague- Astronomical
clock. It’s interesting to see the figures move which happens once every hour. You have to climb to the top of Astronomical
tower and enjoy in the beautiful view of the city- it would really be a pity not to
do this. And just imagine the feeling when you find yourself here on the first
of January and think of the upcoming year- is there a better way to start a New
Year?

On the square of Old
Town you will see a memorial monument Jan Hus, Gothic Church of Our Lady before
Tyn, and if you are a fan of cultural facilities you will definitely like
Prague. Here exactly, on the square, is the gallery with works of Salvador
Dali, Alfons Mucha and Andy Warhol. Besides this, there are numerous museums with extremly
different themes - from National Museum to Beer Museum, Museum of Medieval
Torture or even Sex Machines Museum. Of course, there is a Museum of well known
writer Franz Kafka who was born in Prague.

Take time to simply not have a plan- wander the streets of this magical city. Observe different architectural styles which combine renaissance, 19th century, recession... That combination of old architecture and modern one like Dancing House is really interesting.
When you get tired,
try out local cuisine in one of the traditional restaurants. Restaurant ,,Lokal’’ has good references, but good quality of food you will also find at
,,Restaurant U Provaznice’’. I remember this place because they really have
delicious local dishes- I’d mention the dish called ,, Svickova na smetane’’
which would be a specific sort of beef served with cream sauce, cranberry and
traditional bread dumplings. You will like it especially if you like dishes with a glimpse of sweetness. In one restaurant, when I ordered this dish, I got
something which I was pretty much sure was sweet cream on top- yes, I know, it sounds
weird, but combination is perfect.
And of course, every
fan of alcohol is going to be really happy in Prague- huge variety of beers
with low prices on every step- not bad, right? ,, Zly Casy’’ is the right place
for you if you are amongst beer fans- this is the first place which has started
serving draft beer.
Don’t miss trying
out charms of street stands like bavarian
sausages, trdelnik, already mentioned mead...

If you decide to try
something which isn’t local then visit Hard Rock Cafe which is one of the
biggest in Europe- interior is really perfectly done.

If you want to take a short trip I’d recommend
a cruise on Vtlava river, Karlovy Vary and gothic Karlstejn Castle.
Od izleta bih izdvojila krstarenje Vtlavom, posetu Karlovim Varima i gotički dvorac Karlštejn.
If you decide to
visit ,,Golden’’ Prague- you will definitely not be mistaken. But take few day-
although as much time you take I think you will never find it as enough because
the wealth of this city is simply impossible to
explore all the way.
